In the News

Dec 4 2006

Hello December!

I’m currently “studying” for finals. Pray for me.

Asia typhoon

There was a typhoon in the Philippines and they fear that the death toll may hit over 1000. This is terrible, and I just hope that everyone is ok. I’ve read quite a few Philippino blogs, so I’m nervous about them as well (is that dumb?). There is an article at MSN.com about it if you don’t know.

World AIDS Day

Friday was World AIDS Day, and I thought it was important that people spoke up, got tested, and tried to educate themselves. But I hope that people don’t limit themselves to only 1 day. With the improvements in medicine and education, it is irresponsible, if you are sexually active, to not get tested.

However, do not be naive in thinking that sex is the only way to get infected because, there is also a possibility (although much more remote than 20 years ago) of a blood transfusion gone bad. Or, if you get a tattoo by someone who doesn’t know the word sterile.

So, I may not have to worry about any of the prior reasons, but I still need to be aware of their possibilities. And if I need to worry, then you do to. Don’t be ignorant, it’s not bliss.

Senator Clinton

Well, Hillary admits to considering running in 2008, color me surprised… and uninterested. I may be a democrat, and I may be female, but I’m not dumb. She almost ruined her hubby’s term 10 years ago, and she may be popular now, but she doesn’t do it for me.

Why don’t I want her to be president? Let me count the ways. Or at least I would if I felt she deserved my time.

Edit: I just realized that sounds like I think all Democrats, females, or the combination of the two are dumb, but I obviously don’t. We’re the best of the bunch!

Edit: Another Shooting

Yet another person has been shot dead by police, this was last Friday. This is like the third in 3 weeks or something. He was an 18 year old, thief, who went to the door with a video game controller in his hand and was shot dead by the police bursting through the door in North Carolina.

They were coming to arrest him for a robbery of a PS3 off some guy 3 days prior.

The State Bureau of Investigation is examining the case and three deputies on the team were placed on paid leave, normal practice whenever officers fire their weapons, Causey said.

Fantastic. Apparently most cops go their entire career with ever shooting their weapons. Yea.

There were those people that left needles on the seats in cinemas and around the towns so people got AIDs… that was just sickening.

I agree, back in Junior high, some idiot ran around the hallways in between classes stabbing people with a needle.

The needle was clean, but everyone still had to get tested for a bunch of stuff because someone who got stabbed could have been affected, etc.

Needless to say, everyone was freaked.

One of my friends asked her (then) boyfriend to get tested before they had sex, and he totally flipped at her. I understand why he might have felt insulted, but it’s irresponsible to think that you are never going to be affected (even if it never happens).

    Happy december! :) :) :)
We women rule the world! he he it’s only a mather of time before men will realise it! (And by then it will be too late *Devils laugh*)

I agree with your doubts about Hilary though I am not American and therefore don’t really care…

You are so right about the AIDS thing, people should ALWAYS be aware! Not just one day a year.

I completely agree, people should be aware of it all the time and not just one day… Humanity is stupid so maybe that is to much to ask for? :P

It’s a frightening thought, but as far as I’m aware it’s an urban legend. However in today’s day and age you can’t be sure, there are some mad people out there.

People should be aware of things all the time, like AIDS but also our environment, I’ve been a donating (a slight amount) of money to the WWF every month for over 2 years now.
I could go on and on about what simple things you can do that make a difference in someone’s life, like downloading The Great Divide on Itunes, it’s 99 cents and all proceeds go to HIVSA.com :D

Eep, I hope everything is ok in the Philippines.

As for Hilary Clinton running in 2008, I don’t think the US is ready for a female president, no matter how great (or awful) she is. Chances are the more conservative states are going to say no both hands.

Well, hopefully all your friends in the Phillipines are all right, and hopefully thigns get better for them soon. I hate hearing about thsoe sorts of things in the news, because I always end up feeling so bad for all those people… it puts a damper on my day.

I’m glad your reminding people about AIDS awareness- it’s true, that not enough people know much on the subject, even when they think they do.

I don’t haev an opinion on Hilary yet- i don’t really pay any attention to her at all. XD

… The police thing is getting ridiculous. That’s all I have to say about that.

Good luck for your finals, my friend is from The Philipines too! Well, my friend is really afraid of the typhoons, so it isn’t dumb to be nervous.

My teacher covered about AIDS in school sometime ago, it’s really scary.
