Bush Pressures Scientists to Lie About Global Warming

Jan 31 2007

As if I didn’t need another reason to dislike my dear dear president, I hear yet another thing that makes me sick. I’m not surprised by it because he has shown that he has no concern for the important things in this world, but I’m disgusted none the less.

Yesterday, a news article came out discussing the “political interference in federal climate science.”

Out of 1600 climate scientists (who research different things regarding the weather/sustainability/or whatever), there have been over 430 “occurrences of political interference” in the last 5 years. The Government Accountability Project (GAP) held a very extensive investigation which proves that the government is taking it too far.

I think we all know that Bush pulled out of the Kyoto Protocol, so it’s no big surprise.

But, in the investigation that I referred to above:

  • 43 percent of respondents reported edits during review of their work that changed the meaning of their findings.
  • 46 percent felt administrative requirements that impaired climate-related work.
  • 67 percent said the environment for federal government climate research is worse now than five years ago.

(Source: MSNBC staff and news service reports)

With the Democrats new position in the House and Senate, it seems obvious that new legislation is going to happen that favors working towards changing our practices to further sustainability. And this is what Bush and his buddies (big businesses) do not want. So hey, let’s lie and use our influence inappropriately. Who’s going to know?

For more on GAP, see Whistleblower.com.

ps. I am actively accepting new hostees. I’ve lost some because they don’t want to follow the rules or some other reason, so if you’ve got what it takes, check out the hosting information.

pps. I’ve also moved the contact information (and some other stuff) to make my site more convenient for me. So the contact form is in the /contact/ folder, the typo form is /contact/ and the visitor survey /contact/visitor-survey.php.

ppps. I hope this weekend to to write an “essay” on my thoughts about the pay differential between men and women, and why despite all of the advances we as a society have made, women are still objectified and disregarded in the workplace, government, and (in many cases) society in general.

pppps. (Is that annoying? ) If you were here earlier and you saw the theme was completely screwed up, that’s because I was messing with things because Safari reads CSS differently (or something like that), and I was trying to fix a header. I accidentally deleted a bit of my code.
I don’t personally use my default layout, so I don’t know how long it was messed up.

Politics just makes me angry. I’m Canadian, so I don’t know a whole lot about US politics, except what I hear on The Daily Show. I don’t even like paying attention to politics in Canada. One thing though, from what I’ve heard of Bush’s presidency on the news and everything, and then watching him doing speechs and things. He never really looks like he knows what he’s talking about unless it’s something simple like “support the troops”. He’s gotten better since he started, but he still looks a little clueless to me. But that’s just an observers opinion. Nothing surprises me anymore. I realize that these climate reports are being changed, but I would hope that those specific edited reports aren’t the only thing ‘the people’ are listening to and believing. There are so many different resources that people need to look at before they decide they know what’s going on with the world. (sorry for the mini rant :) )

If you’re speaking badly about Bush, then you can rant all you like.

I will try not to make this comment into a long-winded political ideology rant… but please forgive me if it ends up turning into one.

I just really really hate it when certain people *cough* think it’s okay to just ignore the facts to pursue their goals. What bothers me more is that the issue of global warming can’t be ignored forever; it affects every single one of us or will.

I saw a video in my polisci class and a bunch of CEOs were talking about global warming as if it were a myth… and it was just disgusting.

In general, I have a huge problem with the idea of “big business, small government” and reading this has made me dislike it even more.

Oh lovely! More reasons to hate Bush! He’s despicable!

Ok, so I may not know all the facts but does it really matter? Would it make me less of a ranter if I had little to rant about? Or is any rant about Bush, however short and uninformed, ok with you? :-P

I’m from England, so thank God I don’t have to put up with Bush! But, from all the things I’ve heard about im (including this) I really dislike him! As I do Tony Blair.

Kim it doesn’t matter where you’re from; everyone has to deal with Bush. The war in Iraq is something that concerns us all and I don’t need to remind anyone how that started?

Also global warning is an issue for every person on this planet, it affects us all and it surely isn’t a myth. I think we can see it affecting us all already; here winters are getting warmer and shorter and the summers hotter and last longer. Because of that the environment is out of balance and it’s something we should be really worried about.

I highly doubt that the global warming will be less of a problem if the democrats are elected at the next American circus. Everyone needs to reconsider the way we live and the resources we use – politicians can only rule and make quotas it seems. They are useless until the day where they make western living either impossible or too expensive – and lures the Asian governments into convincing people to quit working at the polluting factories and stay poor.

Personally, I think anything is possible, but really, it’s not an issue of passing laws or people obeying them.

What’s needed is enforcement. Any country/state/whatever can pass as many laws as it likes, but if there is no enforcement, there’s no change.

Let’s assassinate Bush. Okay, for the sake of any type of government manperson who reads this: I have no intention of assassinating the president. I just wish he would die already.

    Let’s have a successful choking-on-a-pretzel episode, please?

If ever Bush will be executed, I want it to be here in my country. Just like how our national hero. :p

Seriously, I really don’t like Bush. He just wants everything for himself.

I am disappointed in the president. I really wanted Bush to face someone other than Kerry in the past election, but that never happened. Now I have to fear a lying and conniving Clinton. Though it is a female… her close connections with scandals not just tied in with her hubby as President but when he was governor, is just another thing to say NO WAY HILLARY.

I do not see any improvement in the government anytime soon… nor in the environment. The only thing promising was seeing Gore at last years MTV Music Awards stand with a speech that people saw, but may have not listened. It was an eye opener for me. I have vowed to try to conserve resources to the best of my ability.

It’s pathetic we have to be under the control of such a nitwit. Personally, I think an impeachment is in order.
