Gun Control
And, this is why gun control is necessary. A woman was shot in front of a church, in front of churchgoers by a man that she was having an argument with.
She was shot multiple times, and died at the scene.
I hear people touting the tenets of the Second Amendment to the U.S., and I have to roll my eyes. That was written by people just previously ravaged by war, who feared any strong governmental control.
If this is supposedly peace time (well, at least here in the U.S.), the point to having a gun for “protection” has been lost, or is quickly diminishing.
More people are likely to die from their own gun than someone else’s gun. (Think of all the kids that accidentally shoot their friends because they are showing them their father’s–or mother’s–gun. Completely unnecessary).
You want to hunt? Ok, cannibal, go ahead and do so. But, tell me. Aside from maiming poor animals that don’t do anything to deserve it, what is the point of hunting? We’ve got stores that provide meat if you must have it (I don’t eat meat, but that’s just me), and some companies are not completely inhumane when it comes to slaughtering their animals.
“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Really? Well, guns are so easily acquirable, they may as well pull the trigger too. There’s not enough control and things like this will continue to happen because the members of the NRA has the Repubs in their back pocket, right next to their wallets.
If you want to have a gun, fine, but don’t try to justify your opinions to me when next we hear about another woman being killed in front of a church.

Very good thought…
Many people (even in my family) consider having a gun as sort of their personal freedom. And with the US being referred to as the “land of unlimited possibilities” or “land of the free” it’s kind of difficult to find a counter-argument.
I think it’s a lot about this idea of “My neighbor/colleague/etc owns a gun too, why should I be without one?”…
Yea, but I would think that it would be better to try to deal with your neighbor/colleague/etc without the guns.
That way, no one gets shot.
You need to check your facts. I would suggest studies and research by Gary Kleck or John Lott. You may even want to read the Second Amendment. I was pro gun dontrol until rationality took over. I now own four handguns(legally) and have a concealed carry permit. I am a service disabled Vietnam Veteran so I have seen a lot of bloodshed and death. Please use rational science instead of eye rolling.
There’s is so much that I could say about that, but no time or desire to get into a debate with someone I’m sure will not listen. I mean, I’d have to ask you what you’re sources were, but I believe in people who can be objective.
As a person who is also studying psychology, I’ve got about 5 reasons why you have 4 guns, and trust me, none of them are great.
Please tell me, what 4 handguns do that 1 will not.
I agree with you that guns kill people. They are too easy to get these days and people who get them go crazy. The media and other influences are to blame here. We have to do something about them quickly or else there may soon be another arms race.
I have to admit that I am completely against guns and weapons and I do not understand that permission exists fr having them in the private household. Guns do kill people, that´s right.
geeez, like no where better to die but infront of a church. its true. if only she knew and saw it coming.
In a sense, it is still people (who have guns) who kill people. It’s sad and tragic, what happened to that woman, but here in the Philippines? If the police don’t have guns, I won’t even think of owning one. But they’re the ones who kill the civilians, so screw them. I’d feel much more safer (yeah, notice the comparative words) with something to protect myself.
But of course, I’m looking at this in a different perspective. I apologize.
While gun control is definitely a move in the right direction (I agree with you there), it can’t even begin to cover the possibilities of human violence. Knives? Daggers? Poison? Physical abuse?
Guns are a good start, but they only skim the surface of what is essentially wrong with human society.
I completely agree. More regulation in all areas is necessary.
I’m tired of hearing about doctors poisoning their patients.
But, it’s much harder to keep people from buying knives because they can easily be rationalized.
Plus, a gun can be used long-range, so no physical interaction is necessary.
There was a story here a while ago of some woman being shot infront of a church while holding a baby.
And people are getting shot here for disrespecting others…do you know what counts as disrespect? Looking at someone the wrong way.
I think guns shouldn’t be allowed unless you’re in the Army or the police or something. =\ There should also be higher penalties for carrying a gun. (I’m thinking a very long stretch in prison…lol.)
