Happy or Merry damnit?!

Dec 8 2007

Why do some people say “Happy Christmas”? Now, I’m not about to say certain people are weird, but I don’t understand how it started.

I don’t know, to me, it just sounds weird. We have all of these Christmas carols and such, e.g., one of my favorites that I performed at a concert way back when I used to sing public, The Christmas Song, and we normally hear people say “Merry Christmas.”

Is it only an American thing? Do people in other countries say “Happy Christmas,” and we just got it wrong? I know my love, Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer said it, but I’m not familiar with the ins and outs of other countries cultural traditions.

Anyway, I was just wondering.
