My Trip from Hell
So, last Thursday I finally was able to leave school and go back home. After hours upon hours of studying and other miscellaneous work, I was done with finals week.
However, I had just finished a project at 3 or so in the morning, so I was exhausted, an in dire need of sleep. i decided to take the 9am bus out of Ithaca.
Bad idea. Why?
- I had to carry 2 suitcases up a very steep hill, very quickly.
- The bus was late.
- It had started snowing about a half hour previously.
- Within 10 minutes of the bus ride, we were stopped because a bus in front of us couldn’t drive down a hill due to the snow.
- Our bus driver had to stop multiple times because the windshield wipers weren’t working properly.
All of that led to us arriving in Binghampton about 1 and a half hours late. We had to sit around in Binghamton for about half an hour because our bus driver was slower than molasses.
Within 5 minutes of taking off from Binghamton, we were told to turn around. Why? Because Shortline canceled the trip, state troopers had closed the highways.
So, we had to wait in the station for another 45 minutes, drive for another 2 hours back to Ithaca, and I had to drag 2 suitcases back down a hill.
1 whole day wasted.
Then of course, at 2:30am, my mother called me and woke me up. I was planning on taking the 6:30 bus, but I was too awake, so I took the 4am bus.
No snow falling at least, but I had to carry 2 suitcases back up the hill while walking in the snow, and quickly because the bus was on time this time.
Sadly though, that didn’t prevent the bus from arriving late again.
The next stop, there were too many people traveling at 8am, so of course, we had to waste another half hour, in the cold running from 3 different buses to finally get going again.
Oh, of course that’s not all because some moron got the wrong bus, and we had to chase another bus down to get their luggage back.
My connecting bus took off 2 minutes before I arrived, so a I had to take a cab to the next stop in order to get the bus. (Shortline was very smart to pay for it, or I would have done something very bad.)
I finally got to my home town, but my mother was late picking me up.
So, all in all, my trip was about 26 hours longer than necessary, 50 degrees colder than necessary, and 100% more complicated than necessary.
Don’t you love traveling?

I’m sorry to hear about your bad day and the whole bus thing! I had a bad day with buses a couple of months ago also… But wow, I’m glad that Shortline paid for the cab! But I’m glad you got there safely, although you ran into some VERY bad luck!
