Health care costs are too much

Aug 2 2007

One of the biggest problems in the U.S. today is inconsistency. We claim a desire to aid those in need, our politicians–e.g., President Bush–say they want to fight for peace, justice, and the American way, but when it comes to the people who most need our aid and support, they say: no, it costs too much.

What am I talking about? I’m talking about the latest major controversy in our U.S. Congress today. No, it’s not immigration, it’s universal health care for children.

As a now adult, I have become more sensitive to the hardships of those around me, especially children whose parents are unable to adequately care for them through employment, and etc. I would think that it would be our greatest and most sacred duty to do everything that we can to make sure that the children in our society have access to health care, so that situations like the one that took Deamonte Driver’s life at 12 (he died because he was denied an $80 dental treatment by the government) would never happen again. … continue reading: Health care costs are too much

People Amaze Me

Edit: Answer my 2006 Accomplishments Survey! (Link fixed)

I’ve dropped a hostee, and I do not feel bad about it.

I’m not going to name names, or give the name of the site, or give details, but I will say that as a hostee you should be grateful for what you get. Hosts are PAYING for your hosting.

They should be glad that their hosts do not force things on them, for example ads, to continue their hosting–as I have decided not to do.

The whole point of getting hosted is to be on a good server, with some good benefits, without having the restrictions of paying and having ads plastered all over.

What I don’t need is an attitude. Lirae and I agree. I get at least 10 applications a week for hosting–is that a lot or a little? I don’t know, you decide. However, over the past couple weeks, I’ve denied all but a few, and only 1 is still pending. I have the space, but I want people who I believe really deserve it.

I believe that I have been very gracious with my hostees. I’ve increased their space faster than you would expect because they have “needed” it.

I’ve been available to answer questions almost immediately so that they can make their sites work.

I have offered them support that many hosts don’t give, all that I ask is that you follow the rules. If you can’t do that, and if you argue with me about it, then I’m not going to host you.

I am an outspoken, very opinionated 20yr old young woman. I don’t take crap, and I stick to my guns. Unless you can give me a reason to not have my rules apply to you, then you must apply to them.

That’s the way of the world, if you can’t debate, step down.

Edit: A bit of a plug: Join Rouged.org!

I’ll blog later. I need to shower.

American Exceptionalism

Nov 30 2006

Today was my last day of classes for this semester. One of my professors (who is quite famous, has done TV spots, is asked to lecture at schools all over the world, is insanely smart, and not originally from America) spoke in our lecture about various things to conclude the class, including the idea of “American Exceptionalism.” (By the way, exceptionalism is a word.)

According to him, we Americans feel that we are above all/most others. America is the one best country. It has opportunities that most other countries do not have. Moreover, our policies with other countries, especially our humanitarian efforts, are related in large part to our view of American Exceptionalism. Our policies are therefore invaded by the bipartisan moral toned view derived from American Exceptionalism.

I was thinking, do I really buy that idea of “exceptionalism”? And, my answer is in two parts, internal and external. Internally, I do believe that America is exceptional, despite its (many) faults, the reality is that you can get more done here than most anywhere else. … continue reading: American Exceptionalism
