Resource Type
Image Hosts
- Imageshack: A free image host.
- Photobucket: A free image and video host.
- TinyPic.com: Another free image and video host, but they provide tiny urls. I believe they are owned by Photobucket.
- Youtube.com. Hosts your videos for free, but they are converted to flash, and you cannot download them. It’s a great site because you can view thousands of hilarious videos.
Hosting
- Hosting: For paid hosting recommendations (domain registration, etc.) just read my domain info. I have yet to find the “perfect” host, but I do recommend the sites that I use. Or you can buy from me, just check out my hosting page. (Also recommended
) - Free File Hosting:
- Filefactory.com: Up to 300mb, files held indefinitely, deleted after 7 days if no downloads, unlimited downloads.
- Filefront.com: You must register, but you get unlimited space and unlimited downloads. Max file size is 1gig.
- File Lodge: You must register. You get 500mb of space, and unlimited downloads. Files are only deleted by you. Direct linking is allowed for media files.
- Filevip.com: Allows direct linking, 100mb per file limit, unlimited files? Does not allow unlimited downloads.
- Mediafire.com: Does not allow direct linking, you don’t have to register, unlimited downloads, unlimited files. Files are not removed, but they will notify you if this changes in the future.
- Free Web Hosting:
- 50webs.com: 60mb of space and unlimited bandwith, no forced ads. I have used them, they are ok, but free plans do not get CGI PHP or MySQL support.
- Get What You Give: A free site that connects hosts with hostees (and vice a versa).
- Host Ultra: Unlimited space/bandwidth. They do not offer MySQL support for free ($5 activation fee), and they place a pop-under and a pop-up ad on each free hosted page. I’ve never used them, so I guess it depends on what you want.
- Sitesled.com: 250mb of space and 30gigs a month of bandwithd. I have used them and they are ok. They do not force ads; however, they also do not support CGI PHP or MySQL.
- Of course, I offer free hosting.
- You can also view the sites listed at Free-Webhosts.com, or you can do a Search.
- Free MySQL Database Hosting
- FreeMySQL.net: You can have multiple databases per user, creating a max of 5 databases at a time, forums are allowed, access to phpMyAdmin and own control panel.
- FreeSQL.org: One database per user, access to phpMyAdmin, no forums, there was a server crash, so all the rules/info aren’t back up yet.

- Email Riddler: At DynamicDrive.com, it encrypts your email into a JavaScript code to combat spambots.
- GifBot: An online tool that allows you to optimize images if you don’t have photoshop or something like it. (A good way to reduce loading times.)
- Obfuscate E-mail: It’s a Wordpress Plugin that does the same thing as above. I don’t use it, but it’s convenient I think.
- TinyURL.com: They shrink down a long URL into a much smaller size. (Example: Jem’s post.)
- Web Page Analyzer: It tests your page to see sizes of images, scripts, and etc. and analyzes how long it takes your pages to load.
Scripts & Tutorials
- A List Apart: A great resource for website making information.
- CodeGrrl.com: A source for many popular scripts. A great majority have been taken down, but hopefully they’ll return within the next decade.
- Coppermine Gallery: My favorite gallery script. (I use it on another site I own). It is well made, and you can even use it as a place to house your downloads.
- Haloscan.com: A low-tech commenting system. If you do not want to use something like Wordpress, but you want your visitors to be able to comment on your site. You won’t be able to validate your pages however.
